Region Overview
Imagine a land blessed by the gods where Mother Nature would not have overlooked its creative work... This is our region. You will find around the house a kaleidoscope of landscapes of infinite variety.
Heading south... The sea and ponds, long sandy beaches : the Thau lagoon, a real inland sea, surrounded by a picturesque string of villages : Meze, Marseillan, Bouzigues, the scene of a production rich in colors and flavors : oysters and mussels.
Sète, a unique and unusual port city nestled between sea and lagoon where traditions are still very much alive : the Sète jousts, the bast or sétoise rust, Sète paintings, the atmosphere of the port or market, the aerial panorama offered by the Mount St Clair...
Heading north... Mountains, plateaux, gorges and villages create another universe, wilder, sometimes harsh, shaped by the work of Man and the geological history. Nature lovers, you will love the Larzac plateau, the circus of Navacelles, the Gorges de l'Hérault or St Guilhem le Desert, a medieval jewel, one of the most fascinating sites of the region.
Heading towards the city... The city here is the result of a tradition of hospitality, between Spain and Italy, Mediterranean in the soul. Montpellier, the regional capital, between heritage and modernity, is a university town, the seat of the oldest medical school in Europe, still in activity today...
Pezenas, proud of its prestigious economic and political past, saw the first steps of the great Molière with his troupe "illustrious theater" and offers a delightful stroll through its streets, filled with an impressive architectural heritage...
Around the house is the plain and the hillside vineyards dotted here and there with pine islands, olive groves, vineyards and ancestral farmhouse, with rides through vineyards trails and scrubland near the Ancient Roman road which was the link between the Rhone river and the Spanish border. It's a good place to smell the aromatic scents, to learn to recognize these crafty plants that have more than one trick up their sleeves to resist the aridity of the soil and the climate. In the midst of this landscape bathed in light, exist here and there the witnesses of this long history : Montagnac, the Valmagne Abbey, the Gallo-Roman villa of Loupian...
